Soapbox Poetry 2014

The Betsy Hotel invites you to gather Mondays in April at 5 PM ‘on the front stoop’ to hear poems read by members of our community in homage to National Poetry Month.

The Betsy-South Beach
1440 Ocean Drive//Miami Beach, Florida
April 7, 14, 21 and 28  –  5 PM

This program pays homage to London’s Hyde Park Speaker’s Corner. Every Sunday morning since the right of free assembly was recognized in 1872 people gather at the Speakers’ Corner in London’s Hyde Park to partake in a unique forum for free speech. While Karl Marx, and George Orwell used that spot to express their opinions, today’s average speaker is generally lower profile yet they lecture about everything (some may read poetry). The sheer variety of topics covered and characters discussing them keeps visitors entertained and engrossed.[1]  Betsy Soapbox Poetry participants agree to be photographed and recorded.

The Betsy is host hotel for O, Miami 2014.  Visit for more information on the poetry festival.  Visit for more information on all that The Betsy-South Beach has to offer.
