Emeritus Professor, NYU

Edward J. Sullivan is Emeritus Professor in the History of Art at New York University. His fields of research, publication and teaching include the art and visual cultures of the Spanish, Portuguese and French-speaking countries of the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula. He is the author of more than thirty books and exhibition catalogues including numerous essays on painting and photography in Haiti. Sullivan edited and wrote the major essay for the 2007 monograph Continental Shifts: The Art of Edouard Duval Carrie. Among his more recent publications are From San Juan to Paris and Back: Francisco Oller and Caribbean Art in the Era of Impressionism and, most recently, Latino New York: Art and Experience, 1970-2001 (both published by Yale University Press). He has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the American Philosophical Society and the American Society for Hispanic Art Historical Studies, among others. He has curated some twenty exhibitions in museum and cultural institutions in the U.S., Latin America and Europe.
