National Endowment for the Humanities Chairman William Adams:
“We all have a history and, indeed, history is always with us in one way or another.”
Adams was nominated by President Barack Obama as the 10th Chairman of the NEH. A native of Birmingham, Michigan and son of an auto industry executive, Adams earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy at Colorado College and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz in the History of Consciousness Program. Adams is a committed advocate for liberal arts education and brings to the Endowment a long record of leadership in higher education and the humanities.
Adams is part of the delegation visiting Cuba as part of a U.S. government cultural mission taking place from April 18-21, 2016. "(President Barack Obama) described his trip as extending the hand of friendship to the Cuban people, and this delegation, including some of America’s most distinguished writers, artists, musicians, as well as arts and cultural leaders, will continue this historic collaboration with the Cuban people." - arts.gov
