Theater and Dance

The Betsy Hotel is Miami New Drama’s (MND) ‘go-to’ space for community-based rehearsal and ‘read-throughs’ of new works - and is an ongoing residency partner.

In 2018 Award-winning Playwright John Guare was a resident artist, appearing in a curated conversation with Miami New Drama founder Michel Hausmann.   (MiamiNewDrama.org).

The Betsy has been collaborating with the Peter London Global Dance Company since 2011, including performances in unexpected places to choreographed collaborations with visiting artists in The Betsy Writer’s Room.

In December 2022 as part of Miami Beach Art Week at The Betsy Hotel, the PLGDC performed against a backdrop of photographic works by ZImbabwean Photographer Tamary Kudita, and then repeated the performance in the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

The Betsy Writer’s Room hosted Teo Castellanos as he completed his most recent solo show “Third Trinity”, a powerful and distinct retrospective of growing up in Miami. Later, in partnership with Miami Dade College, Castellanos premiered a project at the Betsy Hotel called Combat Hippies which explored the quest for meaning, purpose and identity in military life, and shared stories of veterans’, refugees’ and civilians’ adjusting to life after war. Teo was also the featured speaker, in 2012, at an event to honor art collector Eli Broad, where Castellanos spoke about the power of arts education.
